Quote of the Day: Federer on his game

Obviously, I can dominate the game. I have worked hard at my game and when you do that, things become easy for you. If I can play two good matches then I will feel really good going into the Australian Open.

- Roger Federer on the state of his game

Now that's more like it - not the snarky snippiness from last week but a more confident sounding Fed.

He won't dominate again, that's for sure. Love the Nike tee, though!

  1. Well, it's very unlikely he'll dominate again but I wouldn't say anything is for sure.

Maybe it's my bias talking, but I think it seemed unlikely that anyone would have ever dominated the way he did.
Yes, the weak era, yada yada yada, but still...

I think this coming year is a huge unknown, which makes it sooo fun. So much talent on display, as well as the "old" master.
    Just sit back and enjoy.:)

  2. Oooh, I missed this post. I agree with you, vetmama. I like Federer. As much as I lurvs me some Rafa, if it weren't for Rafa, Federer would have won 2-3 Frenches and would probably be the greatest player ever. But that's the way the balls bounce. You can't change history. I do hope one day Federer gets his 14th and 15th slams. I just don't want it to be at Rafa's expense!
This year should be very exciting for tennis fans!

  3. I don't think he will 'dominate' (winning 3 of the 4 slams like usual) and he probably won't be expected to win everything anymore. But I think he will be able to break Pete's record. I'm really looking forward to that.

  4. would you stop calling his comments of last week "snarky"? it did not show any lack of confidence, and was not meant to be taken literally. it was a response, albeit sarcastic, and funny as well, to his critics of last year.(touche!) thought it was clever...

  5. anon: It was sarcastic and snarky - but what's wrong with him being snarky? He's human right? It it what it is.

What's interesting is that if what you're saying is true, then he's still smarting from his treatment in the press last year. It can't be good if he's coming in with a chip on his shoulder about it.

He should just move on...but it will be fun to watch to see if he breaks the record this year. IMO it won't happen this year - he'll most likely tie.
