PHOTO OP: Tipsarevic brought to his knees after A-Rod defeat

Oh how the mighty have fallen by the roadside at this year's Wimbledon - tennis roadkill, if you will.

First Nole gets booted yesterday, then Maria gets crushed earlier today and now you can add Andy Roddick to the growing list. The American baller was utterly outplayed by a more aggressive Janko Tipsarevic, losing 6-7 (5), 7-5, 6-4, 7-6 (4) and continuing his misery at The All England Club.

On the flip side the fashion-loving Serb, whose tattoos gained more press than his game last year, finally took a big scalp after almost defeating Roger Federer in 5 sets at this year's Aussie Open. He'll face Dmitry Tursunov in the next round.

But who'll be the next giant to fall? Do tell!

  1. Serena and Federer are the next giants to fall.

I was super happy for Tipsy with this win. His reaction was just golden!!

  2. I hope it's not Roger! At this point, he and Nadal are the only true "giants" left on the men's side, anyway. If any other seeded player loses at this point, I'd classify it as a minor upset a la Blake v. Schuettler.

The women's draw is a little more fluid - I think Venus and Serena are looking pretty scratchy, so they may go out before the quarters. And perhaps Ana is still reeling from her near defeat?

  3. wow b2012 - those are bold predictions!

ff - i'm seeing ReRe go before V just b/c she's not looking like she's in good shape.

interesting the jelena is quietly putting together some really solid results. no one was talking about her which could help her focus on the task at hand - a first major.

  4. I don't want it to be Roger, but it very well could be. I agree that he & Rafa are the only giants left.

I would love for Jelena to win, but I don't think she will. Ana probably has the best shot at winning. But I'll take any woman winning except a Williams sister. Please, oh please, let Venus or Serena be the next to fall.

  5. Roddick is not the first Tipsy's big scalp - last year at Wimbledon he took out Gonzalez in R32, in 5 sets.

He gained quite a following among the British crowd back then, being so cool, philosophical and inked; he won 3 matches, each in 5 sets, before crashing out.
