Ana Ivanovic is the WTA Tour's escape artist extraordinaire and the world no. 1 can now add today's match to her growing resume including this year's Aussie Open semis (down 0-6, 0-2 vs. Hantuchova and last year's Wimbledon quarterfinals (saved 3 match points vs. Vaidisova.)
The Serb was down a set then saved two match points in the second, one on a netcord, to defeat Frenchie veteran Natalie Dechy 6-7 (2), 7-6 (3), 10-8, the best women's match so far. Ana also ditched the horrible adidas "ladyfinger" dress that she opened the tournament wearing, opting for a simple white sleeveless top and white skirt with venting on the side. It's not an original since Sania Mirza was also wearing it, but a much better style indeed.
I wonder how many more costume changes the 20-year old has in store for us?

I saw the third set of Ana's match today and was suprised how badly her backhand was working. Any low bouncing ball on the backhand side seemed to end up in the net.
ReplyDeleteHer serve and forehand were generally okay but unless she inproves on the backhand side she will not win Wimbledon.
good call dave - she definitely struggles with dechy's flat groundies. she always seems to have problems on the backhand side with the open stance staying low then hitting through her shot - some flexibility issues maybe?
ReplyDeleteyeah the top ballers will attack that side all day long...until it breaks
Glad she got thru. Dechy wouldn't have made it another 2 rounds.
ReplyDeleteI like everything about this outfit except the gatherings at the cap sleeves. But it's a HUGE improvement over that hideous dress.
i think it may be time to bring back the ugly bubble dress or the flower dress if ana plays this well in her new outfit.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't agree more - that "ladyfinger" dress was hideous! Hopefully she'll stick to this white number. Maybe now the bubble dress doesn't seem so bad eh?! :p
ReplyDeleteAdidas should really buck up!
no no not the bubble dress! sure the ladyfinger dress is bad and worse than the bubble but ewww not the bubble.
