We have giant-killers in our midst people!
Although I'm not sure how deep these ballers will go in their draws, these three deserve some applause today. So let's give props where props are due:
Frenchie Jeremy Chardy, Latvia's Ernests Gulbis + Spain's Carla Suarez Navarro are responsible for taking the big scalps of headcases David Nalbandian, James Blake + Amelie Mauresmo respectively today at Roland Garros. Bravo!

i saw gulbis play on a side court in indian wells and was impressed by how he hits the ball. plus he reminds me of the karate kid so i have an immediate affection for him.
ReplyDeleteOld Ernie kind of snuck up on me this match. I thought he was going to keep his momentum going from the end of last year and would have started to make his move earlier in the year. I had kind of forgotten about him until this point!
ReplyDeleteI think Rich definitely makes a good point at calling all three of them headcases!
It was only a matter of time before Amelie folded. I'm not sure I even had her going this far in my Racquet Bracket...
ReplyDeleteGulbis is definitely playing well! He's in a pretty interesting nook of the draw there too.
I'm disappointed in James, sad for Amelie, and still waiting on Nalby to lose the 20 lbs he gained over the winter break.
ReplyDeleteI think Ernests is on the cusp of big things! Sad that James is out, though, his draw was pretty soft.
ReplyDeleteI agree, Hopefully Ernests can use this to jumpstart his game and move up the rankings like he should be! Plus he's adorable!!!!
