Dear adidas:
Note to your sponsorship and PR departments: you're a bunch of slackers.
Your brand has two of the most covered and photographed tennis ballers in the world with Novak Djokovic + Ana Ivanovic. But for some asinine reason you've decided to dress them in gear that they've been wearing all year long for Roland Garros - not a sniff of an fresh, interesting style or new colorway.
As a tennis fan, it's frankly boring to watch and shows a lack of innovation from a brand that thinks they're on the cutting edge.
Take a cue from competitor Nike. They seem to understand that Grand Slams are a showcase not only for their ballers but for the brands themselves; they provide a valuable opportunity to communicate real commitment to the sport. Moreover, the get the ballers and fans excited about the tournaments and fashion by giving sneak peeks and previews. Public relations 101 people.
Nike is showing you up in a big way. Tsk, tsk.
In the words of your long-time nemesis just do it.

No kidding! Imagine a relatively new tennis fan who only watched the Aussie, & is now watching the French. Now seeing players in EXACT SAME outfits. BORING! I don't like the same outfits as you, Rich, but you nailed this one.
ReplyDeleteChoosing to keep Ana in that color on clay was ridiculous! She should be in something bright and beautiful.
ReplyDeletei really think tennis is the red headed step child of sports but these brands need a kick in their sporty asses - get with it.
ReplyDeleteagreed! i couldn't believe it when i saw ana in the same dress. they couldn't even give it to her in a different color? is there any chance it's her choice to stick with it?
ReplyDeletei doubt it - if they asked her to wear a new color or style i'd be surprised if she'd say no. she loves fashion so something especially for her would have been perfect.
ReplyDeleteit's all on adidas and their lazy asses.
I, too, am sick to death of Ana's bubble dress! Enough already!
ReplyDeleteGlad someone else agrees. I'm ready to see Novak in something new.
ReplyDeletei thought maybe it was a superstition thing since she won the pac life open in that dress. it's strange that nike players look better on the tour but i find adidas women's clothes cuter and more wearable in the store.
ReplyDeleteomg yes! i hate ana's bubble dress this year, but i expected at least another colour for a new grandslam. not even that. ugh.
ReplyDeletei think even adidas is reading this blog. Because today i saw on ana's website her NEW dress for wimbledon.
ReplyDeleteDon't be to excited... it's almost the same dress as the pink 2006-2007-2008 dress BUT it's WHITE ;-))
the picture is on her homepage...

i really can't believe the marketing dept of Adidas. They have the most beautiful tennis player in years and they don't make any effort in dressing her like Nike does with Serena & Maria...
thanks isa! that dress is horrible - what woman wants to wear a scalloped hem on her dress? bubbles to scallops - brilliant, no?
ReplyDeletethis is not about ana, but while we are dissing adidas, can i just say that i am so glad to have found a blog about this. justine henin, the whole time she was active on the tour, wore THE WORST tennis clothes! such a tragedy for such an aesthetic player! only bethanie mattek's outfits could be worse than adidas.
ReplyDeleteglad DtL! can be of service anon-11:02
