Serena Williams may have walked onto Rod Laver Arena seemingly wounded with heavy strapping on her right thigh but she sure didn't play that way. At all.
The 4-time defending champ crushed Urszula Radwanska 6-1, 6-2 in the Aussie Open first round with classic ReRe plays: big serves, crushing groundies and quick visits to the net. She hit 26 winners against 27 errors, 3 aces and made 16 of 19 net approaches. Next up: Czech Petra Kvitova.
The top seed broke out her new Nike dress for the year's first major: the Women's Sunburst Love Game Dress ($90) in sunburst + white made from Dri-FIT technology and featuring a built in shelf bra, a fully covered back and decorative seams.
It's refreshing (and a relief to some - HELLO Tin) to see a nice pop of yellow amidst the sea of blue on the courts and in the fashions this year. Other lady ballers working this hue for their Oz Open campaigns include older sis Venus Williams, former finalist Ana Ivanovic, NaturAna's first victim Shenay Perry and Francesca Schiavone.

Hooorayyyyy! Sunshine at last!
ReplyDeleteI can't believe I'm saying thst Serena Williams, unapologetic, line judge threatening Serena Williams, is a breath of fresh air, but I am!!! :)

I love it. I was very scared that we would get something along the lines of that black(brown?)/red thing she had been sporting but you like you said this is a breathe of fresh air, clean and feminine and pretty.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE Serena's dress! It's simple, fun and fresh -- the exact opposite of unnecessarily complicated and over-the-top. *coughMashacough*
ReplyDeleteSerena has been so solid with her on-court duds these days, IMO. Keep it up, woman.
I like the color, but the white part looks like a bib.
ReplyDeleteGreat dress, great color. Love it.
ReplyDeleteI think this color is somewhat symbolizing what attitude she is bringing to this tournament. Mary Carillo brought up the US Open thing saying she would have been more harsh in the punishment of Serena, and thank god Pam Shriver shut her up on her rant...I love Pam, and Serena has a great chance to make it all the way this year..she is playing SOLID!!!
ReplyDeleteLoves it! Go Rena! As for Vee's dress, it's a little on the skimpy side ain't it?! Not to mention those 'body'coloured undershorts which make it looking she ain't wearing anything under that dress! Lawdy!!!
