FASHION FIX: Regal Rog downs Andreas, feels concord blue in Melbourne

Roger Federer's feeling blue in Melbourne but not because of his first round match.

The 3-time Aussie Open champ got past pesky Italian veteran Andreas Seppi 6-1, 7-6 (4), 7-5 even though he struggled somewhat with his serve. Fed hit 5 double faults and only connected with 59% of his first serve deliveries but still managed to hit 9 aces in the match. He'll next face Russian Evgeny Korolev for a place in the third round.

So when I previewed Regal Rog's Nike duds for Melbourne I wrote that the sketches, though clean + classic, looked a bit stale but I would wait to see the gear on him to give a final verdict. Lucky I did: the outfit is quite striking. The concord blue in the outfit leans more towards a deeper shade of cobalt and the shadow striping on the shirt, the piping on the polo's placket + cuffs, and the tuxedo-style side stripe on the shorts give nice texture and elegance to these duds.

And, BONUS, Fed was looking kinda sexy strolling out in his grey warmup jacket (could it be the new 'do too?). Yums.

Nice moves, Regal Rog. Nice moves.

  2. Bit more of a vibrant color than what we usually see on him but overall package was nice. Could almost blend into the court to confuse opponents though.

  4. I'm really liking the blue and white on him. He looks really fresh and crisp - making him look cool even though it must be like steam bath in there. The new shorter do is a winner.

I also like how when his shirt rides up we get a flash of lovely matching blue belt. Niiiiice.

  5. Am I the ONLY one who suddenly thinks he's DAMN hot??!?!? I love this getup on him! The color, the gray sweats, THE HAIRCUT!!!

  6. I watched the match live and the colour looks really good on him. The details are also very nice, but I hate the new hairdo.

  8. He IS getting hotter, especially when his new 'do grows out a bit.

But there's def something sexy going on with him, and I'm not giving Mirka any credit. She needs to step her game or watch out.

  9. @babz - and here I was trying to be subtle talking about belts and stuff. What I meant was Roger is looking seriously omfg hot!!

  10. belle - honey, subtlety is great and all, but really it's just us. You can say whatever you want! Hormones don't lie! :D

Rich - I definitely agree. It's like he put on a new mantel of aura or something. me likey.

Not that I am complaining ;)

  13. Wow. He looks...really, really good. I didn't like the new haircut at first but I am definitely warming up to it. And the color is heaven on him. I would elaborate more but I think I might faint...*swoon*

  15. Plus he does look like he added some much-needed pounds in all the right places.

*still in shock over Fed lust*

  16. He is always the best dressed man on a tennis court. His outfits are always so much better tailored then some of those baggy montrocities we see a lot of the tike.

  17. I gotta tell you: Rog is hot in Australia.

I'll never forget the day he won his first Aussie Open and the trophy was handed over by Rod Laver, and Rog started crying uncontrollably. Oh how I fell in love with him then. I can't resist a crying man. Sigh.

  18. sarah: I also think, surprisingly, Tomas Berdych always look well put together, similar to Fed. I always like his style too.

    sonja: "I can't resist a crying man."

me neither, it's when they're most vulnerable and in need of "comfort". it's all about taking your opportunities.

tap me when you spot nole weeping somewhere (and jelena out of sight). don't ask.

  19. Love the cobalt blue especially against the color of the court. Love the shorts with the tuxedo alt color tuxedo stripe. One of his best ensembles thus far!

  20. If you'd like to, Rich, I could pinch Nole real hard or maybe hide his HEAD rackets. He'll be bawling like a baby!

  21. Besides the famous hair, I've always thought that Roger has some of the best looking legs in the mens game (even with the fur.)

And he wears his clothes so well - I think it has something to do with his shoulders.

Anyways - all I care about is that his game is looking good right now. He's not going to beat Safin in the looks department.
