Only the pretty shall play...on Centre Court

"Good looks are a factor," says All England Club spokesperson Johnny Perkins.

That's FUCKED.

Thanks to sheisblessed for the link!

  1. I expected nothing more of these fucked up brits. Kuzzy implied such discrimination the other day, and to see it confirmed in an official statement shows just how backwards this tournament can be.

  2. Well Federer and Murray AEE the prettiest of them all.

No, but seriously, this is lame.

  3. Lamest thing I've ever heard. Wimbledon is so stodgy.

Yes, Murray is quite the eye candy isn't he? *rolls eyes in disgust*

  4. The Wimbly powers that be always have to act like asses before they give in. They did the same thing years ago when they said didn't have enough money to give equal pay to the women because they spent it on the flowers decorating the grounds. They talked trash for years before giving in and getting a roof. The right players will eventually get on Center Court as the pretty faces fall by the wayside as usual.

  5. I'm so appalled. This just pisses me off so much... Urgh.

Espdemerde: don't hate on the brits. Wimby tournament directors aren't truly representative of all of Britain.

  6. Johnny's last words as a Wimby spokesperson? Next headline, Loose lipped Johnny sinks Wimby's ship (at least causes a bit of a storm)

  7. I noticed Saturday and today that the BBC, or whoever is covering the match that the US gets it's feed from, shows a good mix of people in the crowd. Today during the Murray/Wawrinka match, there was a fair mix of people in the shots. Older women, younger women, pretty women, average looking women, heavy, thin, etc. The same thing applies for men. So probably the BBC are not the ones requesting looks. But...you would NEVER see that mix on US network coverage at the USO. Only celebrities and hot young chicks get camera time in the good ol' US of A.
So which is worse? Wimby officials coveting (AND deciding who is) good looks, or US networks doing the same thing?

  8. natch: Actually the article is talking about how looks of the lady ballers play a part in who gets to play on Centre Court. *pukes*

But you're so right. I comment about it on my couch all the time. We only get to see big-breasted blonde women or groups of young girls when watching tennis in the US. I'm all about equal opportunity objectification so I'd like to request shirtless dudes - and lots of 'em.

I know. I meant that Wimby officials decide who is good looking enough to play on court. I also saw that some Wimby officials said it was the BBC's decision. But then I saw who was shown on tv...and that's how I made the comparison.

I am DEF for EOO. But I would request shortless dudes. They could paint and spell out "Vamos!" on their...equipment. ;)

  10. Ah-ha got it!

I think some boys could do it - I've seen bendy equipment up close and personal. Always strangely intriguing to meet one.

  11. Yeah, I was actually commenting on the Wimby website that very few higher seeds played on centre court. Radwanska, for instance, have played on court no. 18 throughout the entire first week + her 4r match. Not very good treatment for a highly ranked/seeded player and a Junior wimby champ. Maybe because she's Polish? Yeah there's definitely racism there too.

  12. This totally sucks. Last time I checked, beauty was in the eye of the beholder and tennis was a sport, not Wimbly's Next Topmodel...
