Na Li had Serena Williams just where the 5-time Miami champ wanted to be - playing from behind on her back foot.
In what's become a trademark display from the top lady baller, ReRe lost the first five games and first set and had multiple break chances against her in the second set but rallied for a 4-6, 7-6 (1), 6-2 win. It was her third consecutive win over a Chinese baller and puts ReRe in the semifinals with a potential blockbuster matchup with big sister Venus waiting in the wings (V plays Iveta Benesova in the ladies evening match.)
Boy that ReRe is GOOD. In fact, she's so good she even had time to "tweet" mid-match pimping out some of her own body care:
If only we could all be as multi-talented as ReRe...or have a PR firm to do it for us.

Happy for ReRe's win but come on! You got your PR writing lines on twitter? Purleaze!

LOL Rich about the tweet. So you know, I can twit, facebook and myspace silmutaneously. That's how cool I am.
ReplyDeleteAnyhoo, I had the chance to catch her match. I bet Na Li is kicking herself right now. How many chances does one get to beat ReRe? In Miami?
I just love the way she fights, man. That's exactly what the WTA tour needs right now. That grittiness. The ATP guys die fighting. Last night Rafa had to roar and growl his way to a win. That's exactly what ReRe did. Like you noted yesterday, once again ReRe scratched and clawed her way to a win. Congrats to her for that effort.
Note to the rest of the WTA top tenners: Learn to fight your way to a win!!!
Ash
Okay, to somewhat defend ReRe for a bit, there have been PLENTY of times where I've texted a tweet and it didn't show up until a few hours later. Sometimes the Twitter servers get overrun and the tweets just don't go out when you write them.
ReplyDeleteHowever, I'm sure she has someone else doing them for her. Just saying that it's possible for her to have tweeted that and it just came up on her page during her match.
I believe Azarenka can take out Williams.
ReplyDeleteI thought that's what most of the celebrities did, at least that's what I read last week. Sure, they do it themselves from time to time - but for the marketing stuff, they have "staff" that takes care of the non personal stuff like tour dates etc.
ReplyDeleteSerena can certainly grind out a win, but good grief, can she have a simple straight set match for once?
LAME! That has to be the most obvious "buy this" tweet in the short history of tennis tweets. She should at least wait a few weeks before she starts pitching her lameo home shopping products. And the timing and tone of the message is all wrong. . .sigh. . .
ReplyDeleteStill glad she won, though!
