VIDEO VAULT: Shrieka pulls JJ card on Vika in Beijing

Maria Sharapova had a hot mic moment during her epic 3-hour plus win against Victoria Azarenka in Beijing.

Vika requested a second medical timeout for an apparent leg issue so the ref walked over to Shrieka and advised her about the extra time. Let's just say she had a few choice words about the situation - and they didn't involve the Belarussian.

*dying*

Thanks Isa!

  1. Note that JJ's time outs are within the rules. It doesn't matter if it annoys someone. No one can say what her body requires or what her training weakesses are.

  2. maria's such a bitch!! there was no need for that, she acts as if she's never had timeouts! bitch please!!!she had her shoulder injury too she seesm to have forgotten that.
there's just no need to act like she's in high school, what if vika is in a considerable amount of pain who is she to throw a hissy fit?!.
she's a great player but boy does her attitude towards others suck

  7. For real--everyone knows JJ's time outs are usually conveniently timed. Playing games within the rules is still playing games!

  8. All I know is I can't WAIT for the next Shrieka-JJ brawl. Do you think JJ will start shrieking at ear-piercing decibels?

    My popcorn's ready.

  9. It's about time these players get called out! There are a handful that abuse the rules habitually. The are habitual rule abusers. If you are that injured, you should retire to prevent further damage/pain.

  10. Bitchy Maria... too much attitude. Like the other readers have pointed out, she's one to talk about gamesmanship.... she ain't called 'Shriekapova' for nothing. Regardless of whether she is right or not, unnecessary and bitchy.

  12. Unnecessary? Oh, I don't think she knew the mic was on. Methinks Maria is pissed that Jelena retired from a FINAL only to jump on a plane and play a 3 setter. (Yes, in pain, but played she did.) Not to mention all the MTO's Jelena has called against her over the years. That AO 2008 SF was just one after another.

More than that, I'd guess this goes waaaaay back. These two grew up playing each other and yet bizarrely act like they're total strangers. Hmmm... I wish one of them will spill the dirt and just blab it all.

In meantime hilarious comments like this will have to do.

    Awesome Maria.

Nah, you'd be hard pressed to find another negative comment she's made about other players. Unlike Serena and Jelena, she always gives her opponents full and total credit in her press conferences after a loss. (Something that most fans overlook. Go read the Oudin presser, or the 2007 Radwanska press conference)

When she was playing hurt last year she could have used the hurt shoulder as an excuse and never did. After her 2008 2R loss at Wimbledon she outright lied and said she wasn't injured and gave AK full credit. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gXMW4FQK_3A

Even though we now know she had a torn rotator cuff at the time.

In comparison you have Jelena blaming losses on everything and anything including her period.

"there was no need for that, she acts as if she's never had timeouts! bitch please!!!she had her shoulder injury too she seesm to have forgotten that."

While playing with that injury she only called the trainer out ONCE: During her last match of the year at Roger's Cup. After that match she ended her season. So I'm sure she doesn't respect Jelena calling the trainer out at the drop of a hat over the years.

Ooh yes, that is a good point. I'd love to hear more about that - anyone got any goss?

    Matt Cronin:

"This much is clear though: Sharapova doesn’t like how Jankovic frequently makes excuses when she loses and doesn’t given enough credit to her foes. perhaps that traces back to Bollettieri’s, when it’s possible that the older Jankovic(she’s two years older than Sharapova), wouldn’t give the Russian credit for victories.

Here’s Sharapova responding to a question at the US Open, tongue firmly in cheek and eyes rolling back in her head:

“After Melanie beat Jelena Jankovic in Wimbledon, Jelena Jankovic said she doesn't have many weapons and she wasn't too impressed.”

“Shocking. Shocking that she said that,” replied Sharapova after her defeat to Oudin.

Jankovic memories of growing up at Bollettieri are rich, except when it comes to specific scores. She’s very much a diva and clearly doesn’t like the amount of attention that Sharapova has received. Without question, she respects her as a player, but since she moved to the United States when she was 12 to train at Bollettieri’s, she’s been all about proving her place in the world, which to her, should be at the very top.

“We always wanted to be better than another .” she said. “ That’s why we are great competitors now when we got older. We want to fight, play the matches, we love the challenges. I didn’t ant to practice I wanted to compete and go play matches on the backcourts. At Bollettieri’s there are like 150 courts and we played -- fat kids, thin kids, 15-year-old, 20 years and we just played an it made it better… We were fighting, competing against each other we were doing anything to win. We were girls at an young age that had rivalries. It should be like that on court but when you leave the court you should be able to go out and have normal life.”

Sharapova’s memories are thin too, other than that as kids at the academy, "we'd always be playing in the semis or finals, all the time. Every week we'd be playing against each other. All I actually remember was that was the time when computers had just come out, and we were so fascinated by them. They had like a little computer room at the academy, and the first thing we'd do after the match was just run to the computer room. I remember us setting up e-mail addresses and stuff. I guess that was the in thing to do.”

Here’s comment that riled Sharapova back in the summer of 2007, when Jankovic said that Sharapova didn’t deserve the word No. 2 ranking having only won one tournament that year. Sharapova's response: "I deserve it - I've won two Slams and the ranking is year-round."
