The top eight lady ballers in the world have gathered in Doha for the 39th WTA year-end Sony Ericsson Championships.
They have been divided into two groups for the round robin format based on the colors of the Qatari flag: the White group features No.1 seed Dinara Safina, No.4 seed Caroline Wozniacki, No.6 seed Victoria Azarenka and No.8 seed Jelena Jankovic. The Maroon group is made up of No.2 seed Serena Williams, No.3 seed Svetlana Kuznetsova, No.5 seed Elena Dementieva and No.7 seed Venus Williams, who is the defending champ.
Alternates Vera Zvonareva + Agnieszka Radwanska also made the trip to Doha.

Rich - as bad as Venus' dress is she looks a lot better than Serena. There's no excuse for that outfit plus her makeup looks bad. All she did was apply some lipstick.
ReplyDeleteI think the best dressed, and I never thought I'd say this, goes to Jankovic. Her understated and body hugging dress is very flattering.
Elena's dress does nothing for her body and her makeup makes her look hard/harsh.
I agree with Allison on Serena; that's pretty horrible. And to me, Sveta always looks so uncomfortable when she dresses up. It's a little disconcerting to look at her!

ReplyDeleteDinara does look great--very sophisticated. Wozzi looks nice too. Serena looks trashy (poodle hair and straight bangs???) and Venus looks like she's ten.
ReplyDeleteWhy do they have to wear evening clothes anyway? Just put on a nice outfit. It doesn't have to be so dressy. Some of the situations the tourneys put the players in is silly. Do the guys go black tie in London? If so, then, oh well...
ReplyDeleteI agree that Elena was the best dressed of the night. The other "bridesmaids in white" didn't quite pull it off. Venus's "ballerina" look was a misfire and Serena's "catsuit" was completely wrong. I like that the ladies tried to glam it up but let's get real, we know that the "London guys" will just wear their warm up gear to the draw presentation. As for who will the whole thing, watch out for "Sveta".

Now I may be the only one thinking this but: I like Venus' outfit! I know it's a little off, but that's actually what I like about it. A little less quillings would've been better though. But the cut of the dress is pretty I think.

ReplyDeleteElena looks exceptional! Serena is just wrong on sooo many levels! But I guess she always is when she tries to do it herself. Stick with the stylist ReRe, you were looking awesome just the other day on your US talkshow tour punting your book! As for Vee! She doesn't fair much better than her sis I'm afraid. I must say though, it's a great idea that the lady ballers get to dress up like this! Adds some glam to the game and just makes things more interesting and exciting for all!
