The Sisters Sledge, Venus + Serena Williams, attended a press conference in Davie, Florida today to officially announce their minority ownership in the Miami Dolphins.
In layman's terms they don't own enough shares in the franchise to control any of the operations, but owner Stephen Ross is hoping the sisters and the other celebrity owners including musicians Emilio + Gloria Estefan, Marc Anthony, and Jimmy Buffet will help enhance the fan experience. They were given Dolphins jerseys - 11 for V's EleVen fashion line and 89 for the Aug. 9 birthdate of their slain sister Yetunde Price who was killed in 2003.
While in Toronto for the Rogers Cup, ReRe was asked about the potential ownership and she told the press,
There have been preliminary talks, and hopefully it'll work out. That would be a great opportunity for both of us. You never know. We'll see what happens. There's always so many opportunities out there, and Venus and I are always trying to expand our brand and do the best that we can do, and if an opportunity presents itself, we would love to see where it can take us. Who knows what's going to happen, but hopefully we'll be able to hopefully continue to expand our brand.
Congrats to both V + ReRe for continuing to think long-term and expand their business portfolios. I mean let's face it: they're in their tennis golden years - especially V. It's smart to solidify some future business opportunities now so they can lay back later. Not that they will, of course.
