FASHION FIX: Ana defeated in Doha, works winning adidas dress though

Ana Ivanovic's campaign towards her first WTA Championship crown hit a snag today. The Serb went down hard in her opening round-robin White Group match to compatriot Jelena Jankovic today 6-3, 6-4, her first defeat to JJ in three years. Not the best of starts.

Anyway, Ana debuted her new adidas dress in match play that she wore during the Doha Desert Island promo yesterday; this outfit was also rumored to be her Aussie Open '09 dress.

I have to say this is the best dress in AGES by adidas - the detailing is superb particularly the roughing and the asymmetrical neckline. Plus the deep, rich plum color looks fantastic against the 20-year old's olive skin and dark features.

It seems they've finally taken some design inspiration from the more forward adidas by Stella McCartney collection and infused these elements in their broader collection. Smart move.

  1. I haven't been watching, so I haven't seen the dress, but in the photo, I don't like the style--it seems kinda messy. I LOVE the color, though.

    Anybody know if Safina won?

  2. I feel like you and I are the only ones that like this dress, Rich. That being said, I'm comforted that we're on the same page here.

  4. it's a big improvement from their previous efforts obvs - it's not traditional. i like that they're trying something different above everything else.

  6. Love the color but I think the dress would be better if the skirt starts around her waist so it's not so shapeless.

  7. That dress is horrible. Adidas used to make such great outfits for Kournikova, they've really gone down hill with their women's tennis wear.

  10. I gotta say I really like the dress, and the colour is gorgeous.

BTW, I can't get over how shiny Ana is in the first pic. Man, if I just had her complexion. When I'm sweaty, I sure as hell don't look that... silky. LOL

  11. adidas should make an invisible dress for Ana.

  12. You've got to be kidding.

Yes, pretty colour to be sure, but absolutely HIDEOUS "design", Stella McCartney inspired or no.

To steal a quote from a poster on tennis.com, that ruched seam beneath the bust (the so-called 'detailing') looks like 'a surgical scar.' And the skirt? Ugh.

Again, other than the colour, it doesn't flatter Ana in anyway shape or form. Baggy, saggy, woefully underdesigned dowdy sack.

    Dump Adidas Ana!

  13. I like the color (it's great on her) but not the design. But she carries it well, so I guess it's okay.

  14. Ana looks great on the new dress designed by adidas for her.

It so unconventional as compared to other adidas dress she's wearing lately.

I have to say that adidas is so different to nike in their approach of clothing their athletes. While nike's approach is more casual, adidas is gearing towards a more sport-technology approach. if you look at adidas players they are more athletic in their apparel as compared to nike players.

As for Ana Ivanovic, her dress looks great for her. I don't see anyone look so good on that dress.

But I hope if adidas is going to keep that dress for Ana for the 1st part of the year, say for Australian and French Open, they will provide different colors of that dress on the major tournaments she will be playing so that people will not think it's an overused dress.

But I'm hopeful that if ever she renews her contract with adidas for 2010, she will be included in the stable of athletes who will be wearing the stella mccartney designs coz she will make headlines with those dresses.

Just imagine if Ana is going to wear the dresses worn by Maria Kirilenko. She will definitely wow the crowd.
