Ivo Karlovic came down from the clouds to celebrate his dismissal of Roger Federer 7-6 (8-6), 4-6, 7-6 (7-5) in Cincinnati and putting the fate of the Swiss' top ranking squarely in Rafael Nadal's clay-caked hands.
Color me jealous but Dr. Ivo's probably still 6' 5" in that squat position. Must be nice - aaargh.

Is it wrong that this upset doesn't even come as a surprise?
ReplyDeleteJAYSUS.
ReplyDeleteI wake up and Fed has lost (again). This is inexcusable. I wanted Fed-Rafa rivalry to last for years. I really did expected better from Fed.
Does anyone know, if Rafa wins Cincy and becomes number 1, but Roger wins the U.S Open, how will the rankings look like?
ReplyDeleterafa will still be number 1, unless he loses super early in the US OPEN. Roger will gain nothing for winning the US OPEN, he's just trying to defend his 1,000 points. If he loses at any stage in the tournament, the gap between him and Rafa will just widen.
ReplyDeleteHere's a thought. If Ivo serves as he did against Federer, can he beat Rafa at Cincy? Rafa doesn't win Cincy, he's not #1.
ReplyDeletenatch - sure he can beat rafa if he's serving well because the courts there are really fast. he got pretty close at queen's club going to 3 tiebreak sets but rafa was able to win the big points. the only way i see it happening is if rafa runs out of steam.
ReplyDeletebabz - ditto anon 2:45. fed will be trying to hold onto his points while rafa can gain points there as well. fed will be losing the top ranking at some point very soon.
agreed rich, it will happen, and soon. if not this week, maybe next.
ReplyDeletebut i'm rooting for rafa to win another title! :-))
what's happening with roger though? is he just saving energy for the olympics, or has his mental strength suffered more than i thought?
yup at this point either monday or august 11 if rafa wins today - fed's points will come off then because of his loss in cinci
ReplyDeletefed has ZERO confidence in his game right now - the loss to karlovic was bad but the croat's huge serve works so well on these quick courts. but the loss to simon in toronto was horrendous.
