FASHION FIX: You reach No. 1 and all you get is this lousy, recycled outfit
Maybe it's the tough economy. Or maybe they ran out of ideas. Or MAYBE it's Kate Middleton's sartorial influence.
Whatever the reason, Sergio Tacchini deserves a major red card for recycling this outfit for Novak Djokovic's first match as the top baller in the world. And it's not the first time they recycled it. He debuted it during the spring clay-court season and then, shockingly, showed up wearing it at Roland Garros. But even if the outfit was AMAZING (and it's not) it still wouldn't be okay to have him wear it again. You're lucky he won his match, ST.
The same could be said for adidas by Stella McCartney and Caroline Wozniacki. They recycled the much-maligned blue ruffle dress she debuted at Indian Wells at Roland Garros and today she appeared in Toronto for her opening round match (which she lost) in a similar outfit to the one she wore starting at Charleston in the spring. The skirt is the same but the tank top was the orange of her sports bra, not white. Same diff to me.
These companies have the opportunity to outfit the top-ranked ballers in tennis and this is the best they can do. I mean, REALLY. These spots are kinda high visibility. Get it together.

FASHION FIX: Wozniacki wearing ruffles for adidas by Stella McCartney
Caroline Wozniacki opened her campaign for a first Indian Wells title by defeating American wildcard Sloane Stephens 6-3, 6-2 in the second round. She'll next face María José Martínez Sánchez who she has yet to defeat in three previous attempts.
The world's top lady baller also debuted a new adidas by Stella McCartney dress for the occasion. She showed up working the Tennis Dress 1 or Tennis Ruffle Dress ($120) in blueprint which features CLIMALITE fabrication to help manage perspiration and cool the body, a ruffled satin collar and mesh inserts throughout for breathability. According to the adidas by Stella McCartney site this blueprint color is her choice for Roland Garros (the white version will be for Wimbledon.)
Here's Wozzi discussing her role as the face of the collection in the Tennis Dress 1:
The ruffles seem a bit much for this dress - it's overkill. And, while I like the color generally, I think it's a bit too dark and deep for Woz (similar to her U.S. Open dress.) I prefer to see her in lighter, brighter colors which tend to match her personality better. This color? Not so much.

FASHION FIX: Anything you can wear I can wear...worse?
Seriously Sesil.
If you're going to pick a knock off to wear at the Oz Open, why pick Wozzi's adidas by Stella McCartney dust mop from last season?
The real version was questionable at best but this no name version is full-on fug. Plus, it's doing strange things to your skin tone. Yikes.

FASHION FIX: adidas by Stella McCartney keeps Wozniacki dusty + drab for Oz Open
Here's the new adidas by Stella McCartney get up Caroline Wozniacki will be wearing as she goes for her maiden major at the Australian Open next week.
She'll be working the Tennis Performance Dress ($150) in alloy (which is a light grey-blue colorway) featuring an embroidered floral motif on front paired with the biker-style Tennis Performance Hooded Jacket ($175) in slate green featuring a plethora of zippers, pockets and flaps.
To help with all those miles she'll be racking up playing her counter-punching (some would say "moonballing") style Wozzi will be wearing the Lucrari Tennis Performance Shoe ($185) in running white, aluminium + apollo. These trainers are based on the uber-popular adidas Barricade V's.
This dress has a much better fit + silhouette for Wozzi than the Tennis Dress she wore to last season's US Open and beyond which many of you despised. Add to this the embroidered floral motif and the whole look gives her a much needed feminine touch. However, they continue to outfit the fair-skinned Dane in colors that are dusty + drab which makes her look, uh, dusty + drab.
You're almost there Stella McCartney. Almost.

FASHION FIX: Wozzi beats Galina, makes adidas by Stella McCartney debut
Caroline Wozniacki made her debut at the US Open and unveiled her new adidas by Stella McCartney gear.
The Danish ninth seed was made to work in the first set by Galina Voskoboeva but then cruised in the second set for a 6-4, 6-0 win. She'll face Petra Martic for a spot in the third round.
Wozzi came out wearing the adidas by Stella McCartney Tennis Dress ($130) in smoked pink which features a double layer top, racer back, and layered/ruffled skirt. This design definitely has its flaws (think: paper bag) but I like the intricate design elements including the delicate but clearly sturdy fabrication and billowy skirt especially in motion.
But the color on Wozz? Not so much.

Wozzi gives better face than Kiri for adidas by Stella McCartney
Wozzi is IN, Kiri is so OUT. Finally.
According to the double bagel, Stella McCartney has dropped the struggling Russian and has chosen the rising Dane as the new global face for her eponymous line with adidas.
Via Politiken:
Stella McCartney has been directly involved in the selection of the main model for the new design, which launches across the world while at the same time, Caroline Wozniacki as the only player on the top level using it during the U.S. Open.
“It obviously feels good, that I was chosen and that Stella has also said that she would like me to represent her line. She will always have something that is new and fresh. She constantly seeks new inspiration, and I just think that she thought that I am new and on the way up and would be a good role model for the clothes, ” sounds Caroline Wozniacki’s own opinion on why she now become the subject of a worldwide campaign for the company she has been associated for several years.
Hmmm, World No. 9 with a bullet vs. World No. 58 and tumbling? No brainer. I guess those are the breaks Kiri. I mean, you're cute and all but Stella would like to sell some clothing. Plus, it'll be nice to finally see the clothing and often - if Wozzi keeps winning, that is.
Thanks ALLISON!

FASHION FIX: Maria K still struggling with her tennis and her style
Maria Kirilenko seems to be going the way of Agnes Szavay.
The once rising Russian was quickly ushered out of the Aussie Open first round today by Italy's Sara Errani 6-0 6-4 in a paltry 91 minutes. In fact, Maria K hasn't even seen beyond the second round of any tourney since winning the title in Seoul last September. What gives?
Anyway, the soon-to-be 22-year old (January 25) is, of course, working adidas by Stella McCartney from the designer's Spring 2009 Collection. The baby-doll style is similar to JJ's ANTA dress but at least this one looks made of more substantial fabric (read: doesn't look flimsy, won't fall apart) though I prefer the color of the Serb's choice. The pink fluorescent piping on the straps, however, is a nice touch as is the intricate detailing at the hem.
I'm sure it's very comfortable to wear in the searing Aussie heat but I'm not really feeling this look. Maria K is dressed like she should be sleepwalking her way to a lady baller slumber party and not onto the courts of a major tourney.
Maybe that's why she's out.

FASHION FIX: Maria K continues losing streak in tennis + style
After triumphing in Seoul a few weeks ago Maria Kirilenko's game has stalled. The Russian lost her second match in a row today when she was beaten by compatriot Vera Zvonareva 6-4, 6-4 in Moscow's opening round; she also lost her first match in Tokyo last week to Czech Klara Zakapalova. I'm thinking fitness is a factor here - bad news for Maria.
What's also bad news is she's still working the adidas by Stella McCartney Tennis Tank Dress in black with white detailing this time, which is the same dress she wore last week but in all white. Time to send this one to eBay, Maria.
So, is it just me or does this version remind anyone else of a court jester's duds? Check it:

FASHION FIX: Maria K's game falls but style rises in Tokyo
Maria Kirilenko didn't have the tournament she was hoping for in Tokyo. The Russian was completely dismantled by Frenchie Marion Bartoli 6-2, 6-2 in the first round. Ouch.
At least Maria looked pretty while losing: she worked the Tennis Mesh Tank in light clay and the Tennis Skirt in chalk 2 both from the Fall 2008 adidas by Stella McCartney collection.
I'm loving the detailing including the buttons on the tank top and the duel-tiering and pleating of the flirty skirt. Plus, the silhouette is quite striking. But the color combo is pretty bland and completely whitewashes the Russian.
Overall a great look for Maria - she wears it very well.

FASHION FIX: New adidas by Stella McCartney revealed + ready for Ana Ivanovic
Marija over at Women's Tennis Blog stumbled upon these images of the adidas by Stella McCartney 2008 Fall/Winter Collection.
The designs continue to feature amazing detailing, particularly for sports apparel, including pleating, rouching, layers, drawstring, and even a bubble skirt which all help to keep the pieces looking feminine. The colorways, however, are simple and mostly neutral allowing the eye to focus on the many details of the clothing.
So when are we going to see Ana Ivanovic working this collection? I know Maria Kirilenko wears this line, and she wears it well, but this clothing really needs to be worn by tennis' top lady baller.
How great would this clothing look on Ana's tall, lean frame and against the beautiful tone of her skin and dark features? I can see her wearing this collection at Wimbledon already.
C'mon adidas - make the offer!

FASHION FIX: Kirilenko makes stylish moves in Estoril
Maria Kirilenko is battling ballers in Estoril this week while the top ladies are gathered in Charleston for the Bausch + Lomb Championships. The Russian took down Czech Petra Cetkovska 6-3, 6-2 in the second round.
I have to say I'm a bigger fan of Maria's fashion than her game. Though her counter-punching ways can go awry, her tennis stylish gear from adidas by Stella McCartney always hits the mark especially the Tennis Polo White top she's working here.
Can her game catch up?

FASHION FIX: Morigami battles Kirilenko in stylish showdown
Fashion fight: Here's a matchup that was surely easy on the eyes - fashionably speaking. Japan's Akiko Morigami battled No. 27 seed Maria Kirilenko for a spot in the third round at the Australian Open. Although the Russian dismantled Akiko 6-1, 6-1, the fashion scoreline was much closer.
