Nole drops adidas for 10-year deal with Sergio Tacchini

Novak Djokovic will be the newest face of Sergio Tacchini starting in January 2010, leaving longtime sponsor adidas and putting to rest rumors of a switch to K-Swiss.

The Serb announced the brand-spanking new 10-year sponsorship deal with the Italian sports apparel brand this weekend in London where he's seeking to defend his title at the ATP World Tour Finals.

"My own idols Pete Sampras and John McEnroe have won almost all titles... wearing the Sergio Tacchini logo”, said Novak.

“I am pleased to partner with Sergio Tacchini, a strong brand with a true tennis DNA and am honoured to become a part of this legacy."
Nole joins ballers Tommy Robredo, Ivo Karlovic, Victor Hanescu, Olivier Rochus, Steve Darcis, Flavia Pennetta and Sara Errani in the ST stable.

This partnership with a Grand Slam champ and potential World No. 1 is a total coup for Sergio Tacchini and should help their product get global exposure and brand recognition. They make stylish, well-made gear and should be a great fit for the Serb.

Plus, a 10-year sponsorship means Nole will be wearing their duds for what would likely be the remainder of his career - talk about puttin' a ring on it.

  1. It's a great deal for Novak but I wonder how much Andy Murray's recent 5-year deal with Adidas had to do with the switch. Perhaps Adidas couldn't afford both players and is placing their bet on Murray. Who knows the real deal but ST is a much better fit than K-Swiss.

  2. "As part of the deal, Sergio Tacchini will produce four Djokovic-inspired clothing lines each year. Terms of the deal were not disclosed."

I'm sure Djokovic will be laughing at Adidas when he takes home another GS in 2010. LOL He speaks Italian too and is very international whereas Murray is just boring and ghostly. Wonder how turquise and orange will look on the flamehaired wonder.

  3. What's Mr. Nole going to do for shoes? Robredo rocks Nike's most of the time. Also, I have a question Rich. Currently Muzz plays with a Fred Perry kit but wears Adidas Barricades. Does he currently not have a shoe deal? I know he's with Adidas beginning on 1/1/10 but what about at the present?

  4. Nate W: Muzz also switches to Nike during Wimby b/c they apparently make better grass-court sneakers.

I'm pretty sure he has something worked out with adidas to wear their Barricades since he wears them throughout most of the season. I don't think FP makes performance sneakers - I've actually never seen anything like that from them.

  5. this is very interesting... from what I heard adidas did not renew the contract since they were able to get Andy Murray. If you consider the economic aspect of endrosements, I think it was a smart move on the part of Adidas to get Andy Murray since he's British and they can get a good share of the tennis market in Europe if Andy will endorse their product. Logistically, it would be too much on the part of Adidas to have 2 big Serbs on their stable. They still have Ana on their stable so it's not much of a loss on their part. I would love to see Novak wears Adidas from head to foot coz you see the loyalty in the brand. If he wears sergio tachinni, what shoes would he wear? Big Question right? and He loses that sense of exclusivity ........
