So after today's shocking news about Richard Gasquet I have a question: Does anyone else see the Frenchie as the ATP's Jennifer Capriati?
I see too many similarities between his on-going saga and J-Cap's.

I definitely think so. There are just so many similarities here - they were both put under such intense pressure from such young ages. Its so easy to see how stuff like this could happen when they didn't really get a chance at having a childhood or a youth. I think its really sad. I mean, Reesh is only 23, right? Most 23 year olds don't exactly have perfect judgement. Especially when they've had to grow up so fast...
ReplyDeleteI just hope he gets to have a comeback, like J-Cap. I don't know why, but there's something about this that's really gotten to me.
This makes me really sad. :( Oh Reeshie...
ReplyDeleteI'm putting all of my hopes and dreams on his B test.
ReplyDeleteSadly, I don't think that you can compare. Jennifer had achieved much greater successes, including an olympic gold medal, before her temporary downfall.
Regardless, I hope that Richard gets his act together like Capriati and wins majors. He's too talented for this.
I agree with Sara, not sure that there are many similarities...Jen obviously went through a difficult time, but was off the tour when she went through the worst of her issues. Regardless, Richard is a huge talent, and it's a shame to see this happen. Also, there could be issues with the sampling procedure? Tennis magazine ran an interesting article about how Martina Hingis's sample may have been inaccurate, for various reasons. Testing procedures aren't always fool proof....
ReplyDeleteHe always had the talent but he was distinctly not a winner. Physically gifted but a mental midget. I think the pressure to succeed with as much talent that he had forced him to cope with the situation in this unfortunate way. He will undoubtedly get the two year ban if the quantity is as much as the rumors have been. That's going to close the window of his chances to win any majors. He was already on the downside of the mountain as it is.
ReplyDeleteOh dear Reeshie. I really hope the B test comes back clear. Because if he were to be banned for two years, I don't really see him recovering from that. If his head isn't in the right place now, things aren't going to get any easier. I hope I'm wrong and I really, sincerely hope he gets the help he needs.
ReplyDeleteShould have done some smack nigra
ReplyDeleteB test came back positive. He's going to appeal and apparently an independent test done using hair came back negative. Fabrice Santoro came to his defense.
ReplyDeleteHmm, that's interesting.... Martina Hingis' hair sample came back negative also, but didn't help her when she tried to appeal.
ReplyDeleteSeems like there are alot of inconsistencies with these kind of tests, but not sure if that will help Gasquet....
Haha, clever Reeshard, he will send a wig to the hair test.
