Nike has announced the launch of the Maria Sharapova Collection with a video news release starring the Russian superstar and her body form twin made from a computerized, 3-D scan of her body (tongues in, boys - and girls.)
For the first time the fashion worn by the 3-time Grand Slammer will be available to the masses through Nike retail and online. She'll unveil seven dresses throughout the season which she helped to design along with a number of tank + skirt combos.
The collection will makes its debut at next week's Australian Open with this lightweight, two layer blue dress (though it looks more green in the video) with printed overlay worn by Shrieka along with the Tiffany & Co. Paloma Picasso gold earrings for accent of course. A number of young WTA stars have also agreed to wear the collection over the season including Taiwan's Kai-Chen Chang, Germany's Julia Goerges, Russia's Anastasia Pirovarova, and U.S. baller Madison Keys.
I love the color including the contrasting gold tie and the fit looks perfect for Shrieka. But I'm not sold on the printed overlay just yet. At the moment it seems like a design afterthought: "Well, we have some extra sheer printed fabric and the dress is a bit plain. Uh, I KNOW..." and the overlay was born. We'll see how it looks on TV in motion.

ReplyDeleteThough I don't care for her or what she wears, I do like that she takes chances (even if they're questionable ones) rather than wear what every other girl wears. Hopefully, I won't have to look at these outfits for very long =D
ReplyDeleteI don't like it, but I'll give it a second chance when she actually wears it in a match. For some reason her outfits always look tremendously different when she wears them on court than they do in the pre-match debuts and promos.

It doesn't look great off, but I really like it on Shrieka. Plus the colour is awesome. If only I looked like her :((
ReplyDeleteI have a real problem with blue on a blue court, i.e., red/orange on clay courts...its just not a way to show off a dress/sports wear with the backdrop the same color..maybe its just me, but yeah,not a good model for the dress.

Ok seriously I saw a picture of her practicing in this or I don't know what she was doing but she was sweaty - she looked like a drown victim who just came out of a moldy pond and got mold all over her. Why would you make mesh the exact color of mold?
ReplyDeleteI think the dress would work slightly better if the dress was in another colour, like yellow or pink or anything that is not the colour of mold. I'm sorry I can't get over the fact that she's wearing a mold coloured dress.
I guess i'm the only one loving it then? *oh well*.
ReplyDeleteMy only problem is having other ballers wear it. Shrieka wearing something similar to other ballers is just 'not right'.
